Here are some of the photos I took last week of the Jouett's Bell at NAS JAX.

HMC Wells told me that when he first reported to NAS JAX as a HM2 he noticed the bell was tarnished so he polished it.
He was then reprimanded. It seems the Naval Historical Society demands that the artifacts remain in their natural condition.
My wife tells me that the natural "patina" adds to the character.
So why did Ray Fair make us shine the brass every day?

John, John, John, I can understand a snipe not knowing why the brass gets shined but a BM should know.

1. There are three ways to do anything.
The right way. The wrong way, and the Navy way.

2. There are 24 cans of Brasso in a case........ There are 24 hours in a day.
Coincidence .....................I think not.

3. Patina is just another shade of green.
Trees, grass, and Kermit the frog are supposed to be green, not brass.
